Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases which in most cases produce increased pressure within the eye. This elevated pressure, called intraocular pressure, or IOP, is caused by a backup of fluid in the eye. Over time, it causes damage to the optic nerve. Betaliq’s therapeutic focus is on medications that reduce this increase in IOP.

Medications to reduce IOP are usually classified as either inflow agents or outflow agents. Inflow agents reduce the amount of fluid, called aqueous humor, that your eye produces. Outflow agents decrease the resistance of the eye tissue to allow the fluid to drain more quickly. Betaliq is developing a portfolio of products that include both categories as well as combination products that combine the two for greater IOP control.
